VDAB tasks
Belgium has four public employment services, each in its own region:
- The VDAB (Vlaamse Dienst voor Arbeidsbemiddeling en Beroepsopleiding) in Flanders. Official language: Dutch.
- Le FOREM in the Walloon provinces. Official language: French.
- ACTIRIS in the Brussels-Capital Region. Official languages: Dutch and French.
- ADG in the German-speaking community. Official language: German.
The VDAB was founded in 1989. It is supervised by Frank Vandenbroucke, vice-president of the Flemish Government, and Flemish minister for Employment and Education.
The VDAB has a social as well as an economic mission:
- On the social level its prime concern is to put employers and jobseekers in touch with each other. The VDAB is committed to provide the best possible assistance to every jobseeker in his search for an appropriate job.
- Economically the VDAB wants to be a reliable partner in human resources management.
To carry out its task as efficiently as possible, the VDAB offers an extensive and efficient service package.
The VDAB continuously optimizes its services by using the most recent communication technology: common media, jobcomputers in public places, a call center and a site.
